Overview
Suitable for exterior smooth planed wood and rough sawn timber such as cladding and fascia, solvent-based Dulux Trade Classic Select Woodstain decorates and protects. This solvent-based woodstain is deep-penetrating and provides a low build matt finish which will not blister or flake. Classic Select Woodstain offers up to four years protection if used in accordance with instructions.

Note: As with other low-build woodstains, Dulux Trade Classic Select Woodstain is not recommended for areas of severe exposure and will require more frequent maintenance than a medium build woodstain.

Preparation
For best results, ensure surfaces to be stained are sound, clean, dry and free from all defective or poorly adhering material such as dirt, grease and wax.
- Surfaces that have been previously painted or varnished must be stripped back to bare wood. All surfaces should be thoroughly rubbed down using a suitable abrasive paper (working in the direction of the grain) and then dusted off (refer to you COSHH Assessment).
- Special precautions should be taken during surface preparation of pre-1960s paint surfaces over wood and metal as they may contain harmful lead.
- All screws, nails and other fixings must be nonferrous.
- Where a low-build woodstain has been used on the exterior of joinery and has eroded and weathered and the wood is split, remove defective coatings, glazing materials and beading.
- Remove any mould, algae, lichen or moss and then treat the surface with .
- Clean all rebates and rub down all surfaces in the direction of the grain and dust off.
- Do not us linseed oil putty for glazing (or making good) with natural wood finishes – use external beads set in an appropriate non-setting mastic or a special glazing compound.
- For best results use only on joinery manufactured in accordance with BS EN 942: 1996 parts 1&2 (or as amended) ‘Quality of Timber and Workmanship in Joinery’.
- Failure to prepare the surface as described above or apply the recommended number of coats will impair the performance of the system and lead to premature failure or maintenance.
Application
Ensure to always follow the manufacturer's instructions found on the tin. Stir thoroughly, It is recommended that a small test area is applied before treating the entire surface to ensure compatibility.

- It is essential to apply the first coat to the back of cladding and the edges of window frames before fixing into the building etc. Ensure that all areas such as endgrain, top and bottom edges of doors, undersides of sills all receive a liberal coat.
- Apply 2 or 3 coats with a brush only.
- As with all solvent based products, Dulux Trade Classic Select Woodstain is not suitable for spraying.
